Integrated Photonic Devices and Materials Group

Kuo-Yi (Ed) Lim was a member of Prof. Kolodziejski's research group from 1992 to 1999 earning a Ph.D. in 1999 and a Masters in Engineering in 1994 from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Kuo-Yi initially joined Prof. Kolodziejski's research group as an undergraduate as a UROP student. He conducted research in development photonic crystals, in particular of one-dimensional air-bridge and monorail photonic crystals in the GaAs/aluminum oxide material system, resulting in a Ph.D. thesis titled "Design and Fabrication of One-dimensional and Two-dimensional Photonic Bandgap Devices" and a M.Eng. thesis titled "The Fabrication of Photonic Bandgap Bridge Resonator Structures." In 1998, he received the Best Student Paper Award at 17th North American Molecular Beam Epitaxy Conference for the paper titled "Photonic Bandgap Waveguide Microcavities: Monorails and Airbridges." He is currently employed at Encentuate Inc., in Singapore.
